Undergraduate Study FAQs
What is the College of Graduate and Continuing Education? The College of Graduate and Continuing Education (CGCE) was created in 2006 to provide adult students, whether returning undergraduates, new college graduates, or seasoned professionals, with programming that meets their career and intellectual needs. We provide comprehensive support from admission to graduation to career services and always seek new ways to serve the changing needs of our adult students.
Where are the offices of the College of Graduate and Continuing Education located? The College offices are located in O’Hara Hall on the first and second floors. O’Hara Hall is situated on the corners of Jefferson and Linden Streets. We’re number 80 on our campus map.
What are your office hours? Most offices on campus are open for business weekdays from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. The Office of Student Services and Advising offers extended hours for service on Mondays through Thursdays until 7:00 PM during the fall and spring terms and until 6:00 PM in the intersession and summer. The Office of Admissions in the College of Graduate and Continuing Education will be happy to meet with students by appointment after regular business hours.

ADMISSIONS
How do I apply for admission through the College of Graduate and Continuing Education?
Admission to undergraduate programs through the College of Graduate and Continuing Education is based on the applicant’s academic record, life experiences and motivation to continue education. The CGCE Admissions Office operates on a rolling admissions plan which processes applications on a continual basis as received. All candidates are informed of the admissions decision within three weeks after the completion of their files of supporting credentials.
To complete the application file, the candidate must have the following sent to the CGCE Office of Admissions:
- A completed application form form accompanied by the $20 application fee.
- An official high school transcript (or Graduate Equivalency Diploma [GED], including scores when applicable
- A personal statement detailing how enrolling at the University will contribute to the individual’s goals
- Official transcripts, mailed directly from every college or university attended (if applicable).
Applicants to the LPN or RN to BS in nursing degree programs must also submit:
- one letter of recommendation on official company letterhead from an employer or instructor familiar with your nursing experience and/or aptitude
- an official nursing school transcript
- photocopy of current nursing license
International students must also submit:

How will I know my application has been received?
Any applicant is welcomed to check on the status of his or her application by calling the Office of Admissions at 1-800-366-4723 or (570) 941-7600 or emailing the office at cgce@scranton.edu.
What happens after I submit my application?
You can expect a decision letter within three weeks of submitting your completed application. In the acceptance packet you'll find a confirmation of acceptance card. If you decide that you would like to enroll in classes you will need to return this confirmation card along with a $50.00 deposit. We understand that life happens and that after you have sent in your deposit you may need to change your academic plans, therefore this deposit is refundable up until the time you register for your classes. In addition, we are always willing to help you in making any needed changes to your term of entry.
What if I earned college credit at another institution?
We are very interested in your past academic experience and aim to maximize your transferable credits- guided by the policies of The University of Scranton.
For Undergraduate students, typically, courses from an accredited institution will transfer to The University of Scranton provided that you've a earned a grade of C or better and the course closely matches a University of Scranton course as required by your program of study. As soon as we receive your completed application, we will complete an official evaluation of your transcripts to determine all transferable courses. The results of this evaluation will be included in your acceptance packet. You will need to complete at least 63 credits at the University of Scranton to earn your Bachelors degree.
TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID
What is the current tuition rate for students?

Individuals who have previously earned a baccalaureate degree from The University of Scranton and are taking undergraduate, credit-bearing courses are eligible for a 50% tuition reduction.
How will I pay for my education?
The University of Scranton is committed to providing an affordable education to adult students. You may be eligible for financial aid by enrolling in as few as six credits. In order to be evaluated for financial aid you will need to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can apply online by the following link: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
When you are completing the FAFSA you will be asked to provide the name and code of the schools to which you are applying. The University of Scranton school code is 003384.
As soon as you become an accepted student, our Financial Aid Office will assess your completed FAFSA. From there they can determine your financial aid package and will shortly thereafter notify you of your awards and any anticipated expenses. Please keep in mind that you should fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible and that you do not need to be an accepted student to complete this form.
CGCE students are eligible to apply for several forms of federal and state financial aid. Eligibility for all grants, loans and institutional aid requires the student to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The student must also submit signed copies of the tax information for the student and spouse (if required). Priority deadline for incoming students is May 1.

Tuition Policy for Senior Citizens
Persons 60 years of age or older may audit undergraduate courses at the University at no tuition charge on a “space available” basis. Fees and other costs of courses (e.g. textbooks) are assessed at the normal rate.
Persons 60 years of age or older may take undergraduate courses for credit at 50 percent tuition. Please see the University catalog for additional details.
Senior citizens must complete the full application process, including submission of all official transcripts.
ACADEMICS
How will I choose my classes?
Upon receipt of your confirmation of acceptance, Undergraduate students will be contacted by a representative from the Student Services and Advising Office who will arrange an appointment for you. During this appointment you will meet with your academic advisor and carefully choose the schedule that best suits your needs.
Where do I find current and future course offerings?
Log into my.scranton, select the Student Tab and click on Course Search or log on at www.scranton.edu/classschedulesearch.
When do classes start and end?

Where do I purchase books and how will I know which books to buy?
The University Bookstore is happy to serve our students with comprehensive, convenient services for all your text and reading needs. Students can visit the bookstore with a copy of their schedule and an associate will assist in located the required text books. How do I get a copy of my University transcript?

GENERAL
Is parking available on campus?
Indeed, parking on campus is available. Students interested in parking on campus are required to pay a parking fee and secure a parking permit. More information about parking on campus is available at: http://academic.scranton.edu/department/publicsafety/parking_traffic.shtml
Is on campus housing available for adult students?

What is a Royal Card and where can I use it?
A Royal Card is your student identification card with your student number (Royal ID) on it. This card functions as your Library card and allows you access to some buildings on campus (McGurrin Hall and the Byron Recreation Center). You may put money on this card and use it at various locations such as the bookstore, library, vending machines, and on-campus food services as well as several off-campus businesses. What is the my.scranton portal and how do I access it?
my.scranton is the official web site where you can easily access information, including academic and financial aid, view your schedule and your grades, and access your e-mail account. To access this portal go to http://my.scranton.edu and click on “What's my Username and RoyalID?” to find out your username. Your initial password is the last 6 digits of your SSN. To log into my.scranton, enter your username and password and click the Login button. The first time you successfully log into my.scranton you should change your password. This can be done by clicking on the Student tab, then on Self Service (UIS), and then on Change your Single Sign On Password.
** Please note - your new password must be exactly 6 characters.
Log out and wait 3 minutes before logging in with your new password. There are many useful links on the University Links tab. Check it out!
**Please note
- you will not have access to the site until all of your documents, including final transcripts are in, which will complete your application.
- your my.scranton account will be disabled after 120 days of inactivity.
How do I forward my University e-mail to my personal e-mail account?
Log into my.scranton and click on the subject of any e-mail message to open the e-mail window. Click on the Options tab, the select Settings on the left hand side and fill out the Mail Forwarding box with your personal e-mail address at the bottom of the page. Be sure to click the Save Changes button.
How will I get information from the University?
Students are expected to access their University email account on a weekly basis; however, daily access is recommended to stay abreast of important, time-sensitive information. University departments and faculty routinely will use email to communicate important campus, academic program and course information.
What if I have trouble accessing my my.scranton account?
Contact the Technology Support Center at (570) 941-4357 and someone will help you.
