Marketing

Graduates with degree in marketing from The University of Scranton are currently employed in the fields of advertising, banking, marketing research, public relations, purchasing, retailing, sales and sales management.

Marketing involves the study of new product development, marketing research, analysis of distribution systems, determination of pricing policies, prediction of consumer behavior, promotion of products and ideas, and business relationships.

Planning for College

The University of Scranton encourages students to take a strong college preparatory program in high school with a minimum of four years of English, three years of mathematics, social science and science, and at least two years of foreign language with additional units taken in acceptable academic areas. Students are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities, particularly those in which working with people to accomplish projects or tasks are required.

Marketing at The University of Scranton

The marketing program at The University of Scranton provides a variety of learning opportunities that involve a high degree of student/faculty interaction. After establishing a foundation in the basics of marketing, such as research and buyer behavior, the program offers courses in a variety of marketing applications including product management, sales, international marketing, retailing, special topics seminar and business-to-business interaction. The marketing program is fully integrated with the AACSB-accredited Kania School of Management initiatives in enterprise management and electronic commerce.

Interested and qualified students may also have the opportunity to take part in research with faculty and to participate in an internship. Recently, University of Scranton students have served as interns with the following companies and organizations: Optical Data Corporation, PEP Boys, Inc., AKZO Salt, Knowles Group, Pennsylvania Northeast Territory Visitors' Bureau, Sky Alland Marketing, Prudential Securities, WSGD Radio in Columbia, MD, Opera Company of Philadelphia, radio stations WPLJ and WXRK in New York City, March of Dimes, Steve Allan Productions, R. Fiore Real Estate, Profera, Inc., Sylvania Chemical Metals, Kraft General Foods, NASDAQ, Cantor Fitzgerald Securities Corporation, Stanley Lamar Group, Lavelle-Miller Group, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, and MLA Management Association.

Outcomes

Graduates with degree in marketing from The University of Scranton are currently employed in the fields of advertising, banking, marketing research, public relations, purchasing, retailing, sales and sales management. Some of these companies include Charming Shops, Cygne Designs, Keystone Office Products, NatWest Services, Oppenheimer and Company, Prudential Asset Management Company, Prudential Securities, Radio Shack, Ryder Rentals, Strawbridge and Clothier, The Melior Group, W.T.R., Inc., Abercrombie and Fitch, Duggan and Brown, Enterprise Car Rental, Dean Witter, MCI/Canon, Montgomery Ward and Ski Valley.

Starting salaries for marketing graduates range between $20,000 to $30,000. Some have opted to pursue Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees or other graduate programs.
