In 1973, Ora Lerman, an artist based in New York City, purchased a farmhouse in the rolling hill country near Laceyville, Pennsylvania. Inspired by a residency at Monet’s home in Giverny, France, she later developed the four-bedroom farmhouse, adjoining building, and twenty-three acres of land as Soaring Gardens, a country retreat featuring two large studios, extensive flower gardens, and a pond. Today, the Soaring Gardens Artists' Retreat offers residencies to visual artists, writers and composers between May and September. Maintained by the Ora Lerman Charitable Trust, facilities include both the farmhouse and a nearby turn-of-the-century church, converted into two studios and living quarters by the painters Jules and Cornelis Kirschenbaum and gifted to the Trust in 2000.  This exhibition highlights work by artists awarded residencies at Soaring Gardens over the past ten years.

Gallery Workshops
The Hope Horn Gallery is offering Drawing Workshops based on themes found in “Soaring Gardens Artists’ Retreat:  Ten Years.” Using colored pencil, students will produce fantastic drawings of imaginary creatures and places. School and community groups may call to schedule times.
