cfa institute research challenge

cfa

For the third successive year, a team of Kania School finance majors made the finals of the annual CFA Institute Research Challenge. Daniel Krajewski ’12, John Marinan ’12, Matthew McGrath13, Kyle Sheetz ’12 and Michael Tumulty ’12 were one of only four teams to advance to the final round, held at the Union League of Philadelphia in February, and completed the competition in second place, behind the team from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

In the competition, described by the sponsoring CFA Institute as “an equity research competition among student teams from the world’s top university business and finance programs,” students prepare and present an equity-research report on a publicly traded company.

At the finals, the Scranton students gave their presentation to a panel of judges and then responded to a ten-minute barrage of intense questioning.  They outperformed teams from colleges and universities that had assembled in Philadelphia from throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Students from Scranton’s teams that have made the competition finals over the last three years are now employed at such organizations as Bank of America, Citigroup, FactSet, Integrated Financial Management, Morgan Stanley, PNC, Quattro M Securities, Schroeder Investment Management and UBS.
