      A proud tradition continues at The University of Scranton as over the last two years three Kania School students have earned the coveted title of Fulbright scholars in the U.S. government’s premier scholarship program for overseas graduate study, research and teaching.

    Nicole Linko ’12 is presently applying her international-business degree in on a Fulbright to Estonia, where she is exploring how university-industry-government relationships spurred innovation and entrepreneurship in that Baltic nation, leading to the transformation of its economy. 

    Anna DiColli ’10, who earned a management minor to complement her degree in neuroscience and served following graduation as director of volunteer programs and global operations at the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children in Philadelphia, was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to explore health resources for immigrants at the Center for Intercultural Documentation within the Migration Institute at Spain’s University of Granada. 

    In the 2011 round of Fulbright awards, two Kania students were named winners.  Rebecca Bartley ’11, who graduated summa cum laude with majors in management and marketing, traveled to Malaysia to teach English as a second language and begin a business club for students at a high school in Terengganu, while providing small-business-development advice to local artists and crafts persons. 

    Gian Peter Vergnetti ’08, a magna cum laude international-business and finance graduate (and winner of the Excellence in International Business Award) who has put his Kania education to work for Merrill Lynch in its Alternative Investments Group in New York, spent ten months as a Fulbright Scholar in United Arab Emirates.  There he explored the nascent and flourishing sustainable-technology cluster in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, under the auspices of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. 

    Scranton’s success in this intensely competitive process has earned the University recognition by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a “top producer” of Fulbright awards for several years in succession, due in no small measure to the guidance of Dr. Susan Trussler, the University’s Fulbright advisor, director of the Kania School’s International Business program, and associate professor in the Economics/Finance Department.
