New ORSP Proposal Submission Deadline Policy

Date: Jan 24, 2011

New Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) Proposal Submission Deadline Policy

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will be eliminating the two-day error correction window effective for Grants.gov proposal submission due dates on or after January 25, 2011.*  This means that for applications to be considered on time, they must be submitted via Grants.gov error-free prior to 5pm on the deadline date. New and Changed/Corrected applications that are submitted after 5pm on the deadline date will be subject to the NIH late policy and may not be accepted for review.

Currently, ORSP policy states that all completed proposal materials (NIH or otherwise) must be received by ORSP five (5) days prior to submission.  In the past, we have been very lenient with this deadline.  We are changing this deadline to three (3) days prior to submission, but will need to strictly enforce this rule to allow sufficient time to correct Grants.gov and eRA Commons errors/warnings prior to the deadlines.  We are also happy to report that that the proposal activity on campus is increasing, and the new deadline will allow sufficient time for ORSP review, processing and submission of all proposals.  If final grant proposal materials including proposal text, completed External Funding Project Approval (EFPA) Form, and prepared internal budget form are not received three (3) days prior to submission deadline, ORSP cannot guarantee timely submission.

To provide you with the best possible support, we strongly encourage anyone intending to submit a grant proposal to inform ORSP as early as possible in the proposal preparation process.  Our awareness of impending submission deadlines will help us to better meet our goal of being your “Partners in Inquiry and Discovery.”

Any questions about the change in NIH submission policy or ORSP deadline changes should be directed to Dr. Tabbi Miller-Scandle, Director of Research and Sponsored Programs, IMBM 207, x6353.
