About Ready to Run™

Ready to Run™ is a non-partisan program for women who want to run for office, seek higher office, work on a campaign, get appointed to office, or learn more about the political system.

Ready to Run™ is your one-stop training on running for office or getting involved in public life.  You will learn from prominent elected and appointed leaders, campaign consultants, party officials, and policy experts.

You will leave with . . .

•   “How-to” instructions on running for office including sample filing documents and calendar of filing deadlines
•   Real-world advice and best practices from experts
•   Strategies for positioning yourself for public leadership
•   A better understanding of Pennsylvania politics
•   Internet strategies for campaigns

Why this program is needed

Research shows that political women change the public policy agenda and the way government works.  Women make our democracy more inclusive and more responsive to the concerns of all citizens, yet Pennsylvania has one of the lowest proportions of women in state and local elected offices in the country. Therefore, this program is intended to encourage and support Pennsylvania women in running for elected positions. Also, in Pennsylvania, the first day to begin collecting petitions for candidacy is February 15 and the last day to file for candidacy before primaries is April 18.  The timing of this program is intended to help participants be prepared to meet these deadlines.
