Goals and Objectives

The purpose of the Freshman Seminar is to integrate first year students into the academic and social life of the University of Scranton.

Goal # 1: Students will develop skills that contribute to life-long learning.

Objectives: The successful student will be able to:

  • Articulate personal and academic interests and link these to U of S opportunities.

  • Develop and evaluate a realistic schedule, integrating responsibilities in all areas of their lives.

  • Converse effectively with faculty and peers about academic opportunities.

  • Set realistic academic goals.

  • Identify university resources and policies necessary for the accomplishment of personal academic goals - especially the U of S Academic Code of Honesty.

  • Articulate an understanding of the Jesuit and Catholic identity of the University of Scranton.

Goal # 2: Students will develop strategies to process information and communicate clearly and effectively.

Objectives: The successful student will be able to:

  • Identify and convey the main ideas and details in a lecture.

  • Use and evaluate the effectiveness of a variety of study strategies.

  • Present clear and organized written assignments.
