Employee Assistance Program
Questions & Answers

The University of Scranton recognizes you as a valuable asset and vital part of the success of the organization. They also know that individuals face a variety of challenges and concerns in their daily lives. Usually these concerns can be worked out, but sometimes difficult situations become too much to handle without assistance. They affect personal happiness, family relations, performance at work, and health. Professional, confidential guidance through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can help you find solutions to difficult situations.

What is an Employee Assistance Program?

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides confidential, professional assistance to employees and their family. An EAP can help resolve personal situations and concerns that may affect the individual's well-being and/or job performance. EAPs provide assessment of treatment needs, brief counseling, referral to the appropriate level of treatment, interface with external resources, appropriate follow-up, and training to assist supervisors identify and help co-workers.

Who is eligible to use the EAP?

The program covers all staff and faculty and eligible members of your household, as determined by your institution's EAP contract. If you are unsure of the eligibility requirements, you can call the EAP confidentially at:

1-800-EAP-CALL
(1-800-327-2255)

What services does the EAP provide?

The EAP offers consultation for a variety of concerns including marital problems, alcohol and substance abuse, stress, emotional, financial, and legal problems. The EAP will assist you in evaluating your situation and they will work with you to find potential solutions.

What are the potential solutions?

The solutions fall into two categories. Most situations can be resolved during "short-term" counseling available through the EAP. More serious, or long-term problems (such as substance abuse or eating disorders) will require referral beyond the EAP to specialists. Your EAP counselors are skilled in determining which approach is best for you and/or your family members.

What if my situation cannot be resolved through short-term counseling?

If the counselor's initial assessment indicates a need for specialized or long-term care, a rapid referral will be made to an appropriate resource. Most situations can be handled within the EAP but, remember, when a referral is needed it will be made as soon as possible for the well-being of the individual. Please be advised that the EAP cannot be used to meet court ordered mandates.

What costs are involved?

There are no costs for any services provided by the EAP, including short-term counseling. All EAP costs are prepaid by The University of Scranton. If, however, an outside referral is necessary, you will be responsible for the associated charges. When a referral is necessary, the EAP staff will help identify available alternatives that fit your financial situation. If insurance is available, benefit coverage will be considered in the referral recommendations.

Who are the "EAP People?"

The University of Scranton has selected, Employee Network, Inc. (eni) to provide EAP services. eni is staffed by experienced behavioral health professionals that are not employees of your company.
