Resources for 2008 Internet2 Symposium/User Group Meeting

Thank you for attending the 2008 Internet2 Symposium Meeting. Below are some resources associated with the talks and demos featured at the Symposium.

Introduction to Internet2 - What is it? What's new? Who's using it?
Heard about Internet2, but not sure what it is? Familiar with Internet2, but curious to know what others in education, health care, and private industry are doing with it? Mrs. Jennifer Oxenford, Associate Director of MAGPI, Co-Chair of the Internet2 Teaching & Learning Special Interest Group, and Advisory Board Member of the Internet2 K20 Initiative highlighted some of the latest and greatest Internet2 applications in this session.

Strings, Kansas!
Is a one-credit hour workshop in which WSU string students introduce stringed instruments to 4th and 5th graders in rural and underserved communities throughout Kansas. WSU students participating in the course adopt these communities, engaging the 4th and 5th graders and learning about their lives. WSU students also design, present, and interact with the rural students to foster their appreciation of music with stringed instruments. Interaction is facilitated through Internet2 and distance technology, such as videoconferencing, blogging, and email.

Bio-Hope Project involving remote control of lab equipment
Bio-HOPE differs from other ICT-based teaching projects in its focus on the scientific method and interactive, engaging, hands-on activities to enhance student understanding of basic concepts. An important feature of this approach is using both virtual laboratory modules and remotely controlled lab setups as sources of information in place of text-based material.

3D Interactive Brain Applications
CNS: Visual Perspectives (CNS: VP), an interactive three-dimensional atlas of the human brain, to promote its integration into different curricula, from high school science through medical school courses. The use of CNS: VP appears to enhance students' motivation, comprehension of the content, and their ability to learn neuroanatomy. Results from studies conducted in years one and two suggest that proper design and alignment to the particular curriculum is the key to promote successful adoption of the materials into courses and to support student learning.
