University of Scranton Hosts Book Signing and Talk by History Professor
The book, published in August of 2008 by Arcadia Publishing, chronicles the role the Waverly Community House and Park has played in the small community located about 10 miles outside of Scranton. Margaretta E. Belin intended the property would serve the residents of Waverly and honor her husband Henry Belin Jr. when it was dedicated in 1920. According to Dr. Dunn, since its inception, the Waverly Community House has set and achieved ambitious goals to enrich community life.
The book is part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series.
A meticulous researcher, Dr. Dunn researched and wrote the guidebook Legendary Ladies: A Guide to Where Women Made History in Pennsylvania, Northeast Mountains Region, published by the Pennsylvania Commission for Women in the April of 2008. The guide features the stories of 55 women and includes maps noting an array of sites in Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.
Dr. Dunn also coauthored The Women of Scranton: 1880–1935, and organized the first Regional Conference on Women and History in Northeastern Pennsylvania, which was held at The University of Scranton in the spring of 2007. She is currently planning the second Regional Conference on Women and History in Northeastern Pennsylvania, which will be held in March of 2009 at the University.
