          The University of Scranton is ranked No. 170 among the nation’s elite universities included in Forbes magazine’s online listing of “America’s Best Colleges.” Scranton has the eighth highest rank among the 25 Jesuit universities to make the national ranking of just 650 institutions. The list, which became public Aug. 3, includes just 43 colleges from Pennsylvania. Forbes does not categorize schools by size or institution type in its overall ranking. Other lists published by Forbes rank Scranton No. 69 among colleges in Northeast America and No. 147 among “Private Colleges in America.”

         
          This is the fourth year Forbes has published its ranking of “America’s Best Colleges” and it is the fourth year that The University of Scranton has been listed.

          The ranking, compiled for Forbes by The Center for College Affordability and Productivity, is based on a dozen factors that seek to evaluate schools in five general areas: post-graduate success; student satisfaction; student debt; four-year graduation rate and competitive awards won by students, such as prestigious scholarships and fellowships like the Rhodes, the Marshall and the Fulbright. Sources of data for the analysis include postings on RateMyProfessor.com (17.5 percent); listings of alumni in Who’s Who in America (10 percent); salaries of alumni posted on Payscale.com (15 percent); the average four-year federal student loan debt (10 percent); four-year graduation rates (8.75 percent); predicted versus actual four-year graduation rates (8.5 percent); and an analysis of students earning nationally competitive awards (7.5 percent), among other factors.
