Conference Unities Academics and Industry Professionals to Address Challenges Facing NEPA's Aging Population
03/15/13
Presentations by academic and industry professionals provide an opportunity to learn about best practices, new research findings, and how the nation’s changing economy will affect healthy aging in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The forum integrates academic findings with practical applications and, more importantly, facilitates creative collaboration between practitioners, health care institutions and universities. It also provides a platform from which information is disseminated to those concerned with healthy aging.
Linda P. Fried, M.D., DeLamar Professor of Public Health and dean of Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, New York, N.Y., will serve as keynote speaker. Dr. Fried is also the senior vice president of Columbia University Medical Center and professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In addition, more than twelve lectures will cover topics such as medication, nutrition and vision as components of healthy aging; the changing role of the caregiver; better communication among physicians, nurses and health care professionals who care for the elderly; and a presentation about aging in NEPA – a view from the Capital.
Participants are eligible to obtain continuing education credits in several fields, including physicians, physician assistants, nurses, social work, counseling, occupational therapy and physical therapy.
The conference is a result of the vision of Brian Conniff, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Scranton, and Herbert Hauser, Ph.D., senior research scientist at The University of Scranton.
In addition to The University of Scranton and TCMC, the conference is a collaboration between Johnson College, Keystone College, Lackawanna College, Marywood University and Penn State Worthington.
Conference registration fees vary.
