University of Scranton Players to Present ‘God’s Ear”

Feb 23, 2015

The University of Scranton Players will present “God’s Ear,” written by Jenny Schwartz and directed by Jose Zayas, March 5-8 in the McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts. Performances begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The production features Megan Lasky (as Mel), James Pennington (as Ted), Ladelyn McConnon (as Lanie), Susan Pickup (as Lenora), Amy Black (as the Tooth Fairy), Cillian Byrne (as GI Joe/Flight Attendant) and Dan Mauro (as Guy). Local participants include James Pennington (West Wyoming), Amy Black (Hop Bottom) and Mike Kranick (Dunmore).

“God’s Ear” won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for the best play by a female playwright in 2007.

The play follows the story of a husband and wife whose family has been torn apart following the loss of their son. Through disjointed scraps of speech, whimsical staging, and linguistic cartwheels, Schwartz puts her playful and emotive spin on the heart-wrenching topic of suffering. Through the skillful use of cliché, “God's Ear” explores with subtle grace and depth, the way the death of a child can tear a family apart. Since its premiere, “God’s Ear” has taken audiences on a one-of-a-kind tour through the emotional turmoil and hope of a family trying desperately to reconnect after tragedy.

Tickets are available by reservation or may be purchased at the box office located on the first floor of the McDade Center on the night of the performance. General admission tickets are $10. Tickets for students, senior citizens, and University of Scranton faculty and staff are $7. Please note that this play includes adult situations, content and language. Viewer and parental discretion is advised.
