Extreme Physiology: A 2013 Intersession Travel Course

Applications are now being accepted for BIOL 395, Extreme Physiology, a 3-credit intersession travel course taking place in Arizona in January 2013.

An informational meeting for BIOL 395: Extreme Physiology – travel to Arizona with us this winter! – will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 5:15 p.m. in Loyola Science Center, room 212.

About the Course
Terrence Sweeney, Ph.D., and Professor Tara Fay would like to announce that they are now accepting applications for BIOL 395, Extreme Physiology, a 3-credit intersession travel course taking place in Arizona in January 2013. The course is a biology major elective. It also has been accepted by the Exercise Science Department to fulfill the biology cognate elective requirement that follows general physiology in the exercise science curriculum. (BIOL 245, General Physiology, is a prerequisite for taking Extreme Physiology.)

This University of Scranton intersession travel course exposes students to the stunning and diverse environments of Arizona in the course of investigating human physiological adaptation to extreme environmental and aerobic challenges. Utilizing the student as both subject and investigator, challenges include exposure to the desert environment, prolonged bouts of exercise and extensive changes in altitude.

Course enrollment is limited to 10 students. The course application deadline is Sunday, Sept. 30, and must be accompanied by a $400 deposit that is refundable through Sunday, Oct. 21. See the payment and deposit policy on the course website (link below) for full details.

There will be a non-mandatory informational meeting about the course on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 5:15 PM in LSC 212. Look also for posters around campus announcing the course.
