Two University Students Selected as Distinguished Military Graduates

Cadets Kevin Demko and Kaitlin Bolster were selected as Distinguished Military Graduates for the 2012-2013 school year by the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

On Sept. 27, U.S. Army Cadet Command announced that two students from The University of Scranton had been selected as Distinguished Military Graduates for the 2012-2013 school year. Seniors Kevin Demko and Kaitlin Bolster were both selected, as well as three other seniors from the Royal Warrior Battalion’s partnership universities. This year less than 20 percent of the nearly 5,600 cadets who will commission are awarded this honor by the Commanding General of U.S. Army Cadet Command.

In order for a student to be considered for selection as a Distinguished Military Graduate they must meet the following criteria:

• Have been named a Distinguished Military Student by their respective professor of military science
• Be in good academic standing with their respective college or university, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Successfully completed the Leaders Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Wash.
• Demonstrated outstanding potential to serve as a commissioned officer
• Rank among the top 20 percent of all cadets on the National Order of Merit List

Cadet Demko is a biology major who hopes to become an Army dentist. He participated in U.S. Army Cadet Command’s Medical Internship program in August, spending three weeks serving at the dental clinic located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Cadet Bolster is a nursing major who will serve on active duty in the Army Nurse Corps following her graduation and commissioning in May. She completed the U.S. Army Cadet Command Nurse Summer Training Program in June, and completed the Cadet Field Training program at the Unites States Military Academy between her sophomore and junior years.  

Other members of the Royal Warrior Battalion selected as Distinguished Military Graduates include cadet Edward Ferkel of Marywood University, cadet Margaret Troxell of King’s College and cadet Jonathan Beekman of King’s College.
