"Thinking about the Future: Emerging Sustainability Challenges in Latin America (and Elsewhere)" will be presented on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. in the PNC auditorium (LSC, room 133).
The event will feature Richard P. Wells, president and founder of The Lexington Group, a management consulting firm that specializes in sustainability strategies. For nations, regions, and companies to be sustainable is to be competitive in the future. Nevertheless, both nations and companies tend to focus on short-term needs rather than long-term sustainability. Recognizing this gap, the Global Competitiveness Index, issued by the World Economic Forum, is being modified to account for social and environmental sustainability. Over the past five years, Wells has been using future scenarios to increase the awareness of public and private organizations in the U.S., Canada and Latin America of the business and societal challenges of sustainability. This talk will briefly describe the scenario, methodology, and two applications with Mexico City and young entrepreneurs in Latin America.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Equity and Diversity, College of Arts and Sciences, and the Latin American and Women's Studies and Biology departments.
