Alumni News: Dec. 4, 2012

The following items highlight the many alumni events and initiatives at The University of Scranton.

Get Involved and Give Back

The University of Scranton’s Center for Service and Social Justice is looking for Scranton alumni to participate in a few upcoming holiday projects.

Giving Tree
Choose a gift valued at $20-25 for a child in need, boys and girls, ages infant to teen, and return unwrapped to the University’s Center for Service and Social Justice Office, DeNaples Center, room 205B, by Monday, Dec. 10. Gifts are given to Friends of the Poor, United Neighborhood Centers and Catholic Social Services to be given out at their annual toy giveaways in which families in need register for holiday assistance

Coat Drive
We are collecting gently used winter coats to give out at our annual Christmas Breakfast. Coats should be clean and in good condition. We are accepting all sizes, but men’s large and X-Large are most in need. New and gently used winter hats, gloves and mittens accepted as well. Coats are now being collected through Thursday, Dec. 20, to the Center for Service & Social Justice, DeNaples Center, room 205B.

For more information, contact the Center for Service and Social Justice at (570) 941-7429.

Coming Together for Hurricane Sandy Relief

The impact of Hurricane Sandy has been felt all along the East Coast, affecting many within The University of Scranton community, as well as prospective students. To address the many issues following this natural disaster, the University has created a website, www.scranton.edu/hurricanesandy, to act as a central resource regarding the institution’s response to the storm and its aftermath.

As information becomes available, the University Response website will provide updates regarding:

  • University communications
  • Resources for students impacted by the storm
  • Fundraising efforts
  • Student initiatives
  • Alumni initiatives
  • Collection drives
  • Prospective student resources

Please check back regularly for new information.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and all the communities who are recovering from this profound disaster.
