Nearly 2,000 friends and family members of University of
Scranton students have registered to attend this week's Family Weekend festivities, set to begin on Friday, Sept. 28. The weekend-long event, which concludes Sunday, Sept. 30, is designed to allow
students to reconnect with family while introducing them to the Scranton
community.
The weekend kicks off Friday
at 8 p.m. with a welcome reception. Scranton’s Mayor Christopher A. Doherty
and University President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., will be in attendance to help
welcome families to the University and city. Other events slated for Friday
evening include a performance of “Prelude to a Kiss," presented by The
University of Scranton Players, and the second annual family weekend
bingo. Numerous Scranton-area restaurants are also providing discounts to help
welcome Scranton families.
Various activities are planned on campus Saturday, including tours of both the new Loyola Science Center and Montrone and Pilarz
Halls on Mulberry Street, a Student Activities Fair on the Dionne Campus Green,
Mass and Scranton’s "Got Spirit." There will also be several classes taught by
University faculty and staff members, as well as Student Government. Guests can
also attend sporting events, a free evening concert and Casino Night sponsored
by USPB.
Family Weekend will conclude on Sunday with “Everything You Ever Wanted to Ask a Jesuit,” a session hosted by Vice President of University Mission and Ministry Rick Malloy, S.J. Father Malloy will discuss how the University interests students to think about their own spirituality and impact on the world.
