"Why do you sell the Latitude? I can get an Inspiron with the same specs for less online?"
The answer is that there is a lot more to a laptop than just the processor speed and the amount of memory.
We can offer full support for the laptops in our program. We can offer loaners, on-site parts for the Dells, and warranty work by Dell certified technicians.
The Latitude series is Dell's business-class product line that offers better performance and stability than the consumer-class Inspiron series that you see advertised on TV and in magazines.Scranton Latitudes include options that are not available on Inspirons or other machines. Try to get 4 year complete care warranty and extended battery warranties on other laptops for under $1400! These are items that directly affect students every day at Scranton.
Warranty and Support
You cannot buy one of our PC laptops without Accidental Damage coverage. Our experience has shown that this warranty coverage is well worth it - we see dozens of spills and drops every year, resulting in damage to system boards that can cost between $700-$800 without Accidental Damage.
Apple does not offer Accidental Damage, but their standard warranty is only one year - we highly recommend extending AppleCare to at least 3 years.
Warranty coverage is more expensive in the short term, but you will take your laptop with you everywhere you go for 4 years . . . the warranty coverage has saved many students!
Scranton laptop computers are business class models and include full support We cannot provide the same level of support for consumer-level computers purchased outside of the program, but you will find laptops that are priced lower than our offerings. Please take warranty and support information into account during your purchase!
Extended battery warranty - Normal battery warranties are for 1 year. Scranton Laptops come with a 3 year battery warranty!
How does all of this affect the price?
Businesses choose the Latitudes for durability and because they can be well-supported. It costs a little more, but there is a trade-off - in the long run, they will save time and money.
We have configured the Latitudes with the software, hardware, and warranty that will last you throughout your four years at Scranton, and we'll support it with spare parts, on-site technicians, loaner laptops, and expedited service. We'll save you time and money while you're at Scranton - and that is the intent of the Scranton Laptop program!
