05/3 - Statement from University of Scranton President regarding the death of Robert Skaf

MEMORANDUM

A STATEMENT FROM REV. JOSEPH M. MCSHANE, S.J. UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT

The entire University community is deeply saddened by the untimely death of Robert Skaf. An energetic young man with a winning personality, in his short time at the University he formed lasting friendships with the men and women in his own year and, indeed, in all the classes of the University.

In the immediate aftermath of this tragedy, the University reached out to Robert's family not only to console them but also to offer any assistance that would be helpful. In addition, knowing how deeply loved he was by his classmates, the Office of Campus Ministry, the Counseling Center and the Division of Student Affairs have moved quickly to offer assistance to his many friends.

The University wishes to thank the Scranton Police Department, the District Attorney's Office, and the staff of Moses Taylor Hospital for the swiftness and thoroughness of their compassionate response to the family and the University community.

As we have done since we first heard of this tragic event, the University will continue to cooperate with and, indeed, assist the Scranton Police Department and District Attorney in their investigations.
