05/28 - The University of Scranton Conducts Graduate School Commencement

The University of Scranton conferred 230 master's degrees at its Graduate School Commencement on May 25. University President Joseph M. McShane, S.J., presented the degrees at the ceremony held in the university's Byron Recreation Complex.

Internationally-known theologian, author and lecturer, Avery Cardinal Dulles, S.J., the Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University, was the principal speaker. He and Sister Anne Munley, I.H.M., president of the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, received honorary degrees during the ceremony.

The program included an invocation by Marie A. George, Ph.D., vice president for planning and institutional research; a welcome by Beth E. Barnett, Ed.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs; an induction of graduates into the Alumni Society by Thomas J. Davis, president of the university's Alumni Society; and remarks by Fr. McShane. The benediction was offered by Terrence Toland, S.J., director of the university's Center for Mission Reflection. Rose Sebastianelli, Ph.D., interim dean of the Graduate School and director of research, presented the graduates.
