University of Scranton Approved for Trade Adjustment Assistance Funding
The University for Scranton has been approved to execute the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Master Agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry until the year 2007.
The TAA provides federal funds to workers who lost jobs through plant downsizing or closing. Those qualified for TAA funds may enroll for credit or non-credit courses at The University of Scranton.
"The TAA certification will enable workers affected by future downturns in the regional economy to take advantage of the training and educational resources available at the university," said Terri Freeman Smith, director of the Center for Continuing Education at The University of Scranton.
In addition to The University of Scranton's more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, the university's Center for Continuing Education offers more than 100 computer training and computer certificate programs and other professional development programs throughout the year.
Continuing education courses offered range from basic to advanced courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, as well as classes required to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. Other certificate programs offered include Java, World Wide Web Technologies, Visual Basic, Oracle, CISCO, desktop publishing, non-profit management, E-Commerce, production and inventory management, and professional human resource management.
