University of Scranton Welcomes New Director of Campus School
Local educator Vincent J. Rizzo has been named director of The University of Scranton Campus School.
In his new post, Mr. Rizzo will be responsible for the administration of a school that currently has approximately 120 students and 19 faculty.
He has a master of science degree in administration from the University of Scranton, and a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Rizzo brings more than 15 years of administrative experience to the Campus School. He has served as supervisor of curriculum and instruction in the Scranton School District, as principal of West Scranton High School and as superintendent of the Mountain View School District, where he chaired the district's Strategic Planning process, directed the district's building project and revised the budget process. While at West Scranton High School, he provided staff development for project-learning curriculum.
Also among his many accomplishments are helping develop the Yellowwood Alternative School, a community-based service learning institute for disruptive youth in the Scranton School District. The program now graduates 70 percent of its students. He also served as the district's grant writer responsible for funding awards for several innovative programs, including two state model projects in service learning and alternative education. He was chosen to serve on the PDE Superintendent's Advisory Council on Assessment for the PSSA while superintendent for Mountain View.
Mr. Rizzo also served as adjunct professor in the Graduate Education Department at Marywood University.
Established in 1994 as an elementary laboratory school by The University of Scranton, the Campus School offers non-traditional, child-centered, individualized elementary education programs to children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Limited openings are available for the fall semester.
