PNC's Chief Economist to Speak at The University of Scranton President's Breakfast
Stuart G. Hoffman, chief economist for PNC Financial Services Group and one of the country's leading economic forecasters, will discuss "Recovery Roller Coaster on Track: No Double Dip Ahead" at the President's Breakfast at The University of Scranton on September 19.
Mr. Hoffman has been recognized as the second most accurate forecaster in The Wall Street Journal's economic survey covering the 1986 to 2001 period.
Mr. Hoffman has held the post of senior vice president and chief economist for The PNC Financial Services Group since 1991. He serves as the principal spokesperson on all economic issues for PNC. He joined PNC in 1980 after a six-year tenure with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He became vice president and senior economist for PNC in 1987.
Mr. Hoffman is frequently quoted in such national publications as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Barron's, Business Week and USA Today. He is a regular guest on CNBC, CNN-fn, The Wall Street Journal Radio Report, Bloomberg TV and CNN News Radio. He is regularly interviewed by the Associated Press and Reuter's news wire services. He is also quoted widely in regional media such as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mr. Hoffman is current chairman of the American Bankers Association Economic Advisory Committee and the Pittsburgh Film Office. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Partnership for Economic Education and the Economic Club of Pittsburgh. Hoffman is a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Association for Business Economics.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University. He received a both a master's and doctorate degree in economics from the University of Cincinnati, where he was a Charles Phelps Taft Memorial Fellow.
