09/20 - The University of Scranton Players Present "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

The University of Scranton Players will present William Shakespeare's comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Sept. 27-29 and Oct. 4-6. All performances will be held in the university's McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts.

Set in a background of woodland splendor, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" revolves around the marriage of Theseus, Duke of Athens, to Queen Hippolyta of the Amazons. The story of artisans, fairies and mismatched lovers includes a "play within a play," revenge, laughter and enchantment in Shakespeare's inimitable style.

The University of Scranton Players have a long, proud history of producing highly original, intellectually stimulating and entertaining theatre. Alumni of The Players include the late Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Oscar nominated actor Jason Miller, Tony Award-winning director of the Broadway revival "Chicago," Walter Bobbie Jr., and Director of The Yale Repertory Theatre and Dean of the Yale School of Drama, Stan Wojewodski Jr.

Cast members are: Theseus - Peter Castagna; Hippolyta - Suzanne Santarelli; Lysander - Christopher Reiley; Hermia - Rachael Miller; Demetrius - Jonathan Kelly; Helena - Liesbet Higham; Egeus - Brian Hogan; Philostrate/Fairy - Will Campenni; Peter Quince - Carl Boccuti; Nick Bottom - Dale Bauman; Francis Flute - Zack Monahan; Tom Snout - Alex Hauck; Robin Starvling - Maria Lazipone; Snug - Chris McGuinness; Oberon - Dr. Michael Friedman; Titania - Kate Brennan; Puck - Catherine Kuehn; Fairy/Attendants - Dan Farrell, Matthew Kochis and Chad Lang; Fairy Chorus - Colleen Davis, Katie Judge, Sarah Turney, Kelly Birmingham, Janet Garafalo, Jenn Glenn, Andrea Lazipone, Stephanie King.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m., Sunday shows begin at 2 p.m. Tickets for the main stage performances are $6 for general admission and $3 for university community members, senior citizens and children under 12. Season passes are also available at $15 for general admission and $8 for university community members, senior citizens, and children under 12.
