Psychologist

As a psychologist, I love working with individuals suffering from eating disorders. I am a survivor of Anorexia Nervosa and passionate about helping others overcome all types of eating disorders. I also enjoy working with trauma survivors, which includes everything from childhood abuse to adult victims of violence. My therapeutic orientation is psychodynamic/humanistic, which means I believe that people are shaped by their past and relationships with others, but have the power to overcome life circumstances in order to live their lives to the fullest. In order to move forward we must understand our past and where our problems first began. I believe everyone is unique and when you are in the room with me, I am with you 100 percent, using the relationship to influence change. I like to think of psychotherapy as working towards growth and not overcoming something that is wrong.

On a personal level, I enjoy spending time with my two dogs, Lucy and Sophie. I also love to spend time with my husband and feel I married the greatest man in the world. My other interests include: interior decorating, landscaping, tennis, Pilates, being outdoors, traveling, getting a really good massage, watching television, and spending time with friends.

Barbara E. Mericle, M.S., L.P.C.
Licensed Professional Counselor

My professional interests include individual and group counseling with a focus on the areas of personal growth and development, and issues related to mood including depression and anxiety. Also of interest are issues related to grief and loss. I appreciate the difficulty that often accompanies the decision to enter counseling. My primary goal is to create a comfortable and respectful atmosphere for each student who does make that decision to see a counselor. I feel privileged to be able to sit with each student who is seeking growth and understanding through a counseling experience.

Ellen M. Morgan, M.S., N.C.C., L.P.C.
Licensed Professional Counselor

My training, background and interest have moved me in the direction of counseling with a strong sensitivity to the spiritual dimension of our being. To that end, much of my work centers on the 'unfreedoms' we experience in life-whether it is related to addictions or addictive behavior, depression, anxiety, growth and development, or issues of grief and loss.

My favorite leisure activity is spending time, doing just about anything, with my husband and my kids. I love to sing, read, and have quiet cups of tea and prayer time. Music refreshes me, and exercise-whether it's a game of hoops on the driveway, a fast game of racquetball or a good walk around the neighborhood-gives me energy and a clearer mind.

"I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one-door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith the fighting chance
And if you get the chance to sit it out or dance I hope you dance… "

Thomas P. Smith, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist

My professional interests lie in understanding human relationships in the context of our beliefs about the meaning/value we place upon ourselves, others, the past and future, as we live life today. Ultimately, the quality of one's life is dynamically affected by the sum total of our mortal human beliefs and our eternal spiritual faith. My theoretical orientation is based upon the Integrative/Cognitive model.
