U.S. Army ROTC

ROTC: PME Requirements

PME REQUIREMENTS

The following classes satisfy the PME requirements (Cadets must complete one from each area).  The PMS will award credit, on a case by case basis, for demonstrated proficiency in computer literacy.  He will also give credit for alternate classes for the other requirements, if in his opinion, they meet the appropriate criteria as described in CCR 145-3 para 2-9.  All waiver requests for PME requirements must originate with a written request from the cadet and are approved by the Brigade Commander.  Once approved the request becomes a part of the cadet’s accession file.  Advisors will conduct a follow up at the beginning of each semester in order to determine the cadets progress in completing these requirements.  The PME requirements must be fulfilled prior to commissioning

  3. Physical training (PT) — PT is required for all contracted cadets and scholarship designees and highly encouraged for all other Basic Course cadets.  ALL cadets enrolled in the PT program are required to take the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) every month on the scheduled APFT date.  All Cadets, regardless of contract status, will take an APFT in the Spring semester.  MSI and MSII Instructors will set performance goals for their class at the beginning of each semester.  These goals are gender neutral.  The MINIMUM performance goals are 220 points by the end of the school year for MSIs and 250 points by the end of the school year for MSIIs.  MSIII Goal is 300 prior to attending Advance Camp and MSIV goal is to maintain 300 through commissioning.

  4. Height/Weight standards — Cadets must meet Height / Weight standards to be contracted and commissioned.  Cadets are encouraged to meet Ht/Wt standards as soon as possible.  Those cadets who do not meet these standards will be monitored and strongly encouraged to begin and maintain a weight control program.

  5. Swim Testing — All cadets enrolled in the PT program will take a swim test once during each semester.  If students are categorized as non-swimmers or poor swimmers, they will be highly enco uraged to enroll in a swimming class in order to strengthen these skills prior to attendance of Advance Camp.  After the swim test cadets are taught basic drown proofing skills such as bobbing and using clothing for makeshift flotation aids.

  6. Social Events — The Fall Semester dinning-in and Spring Semester Awards Dinner are planned by the MSIV senior class. Attendance is mandatory for all contracted cadets and scholarship designees and highly encouraged for all others.  C onsumption of Alcohol prior to or during these events is prohibited.

  7. Placement Credit — Credit for the Basic Course will be given for the following:  Prior service on active duty with an official DD Form 214, record of taking JROTC in High School, ROTC Basic Camp graduate or Basic Combat Training with service in the National Guard or USAR.

  8. Compression — The Commander may authorize cadets to take both semesters of MSI concurrently in one semester.  The latest point at which a cadet may begin ROTC on a compression basis is the beginning of the MSII year.  Commanders may authorize such cadets to take the four MSI and MSII semester courses concurrently to achieve the compression.  Compression cadets are not required to double up on leadership labs, PT or FTXs. Advance course compression is not allowed.  The four semesters of advanced courses must be completed in no less than four normal semesters.  Condensing or compressing the Advance course in any fashion is unauthorized, and it may not be taught in summer session.
