SCRANTON PREP'S SNYDER SELECTS SCRANTON
Carl Danzig, head men's basketball coach at The University of Scranton, has announced that Matthew Snyder (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) will join the Royals for the upcoming 2002-2003 season.
Snyder, a 5-11 guard, earned first-team all-league and all-region honors after averaging 17.7 points in leading the Cavaliers of head coach John Kopicki to the championship of the Lynott Tournament and to its second straight PIAA District II title en route to a 27-8 overall record this past season. He averaged 11 points per game and teamed with current Royal guard Ryan Rogan (Archbald, Pa.) to lead Prep to a 25-5 record his junior year.
"Besides being an intelligent player, Matt brings a level of toughness and intensity to our program which we have been looking for," says Danzig. "I know that his mental toughness, strength and enthusiasm that he has for the game is going to bring a lot to the betterment of our program. In addition to playing at Scranton Prep, which is a tremendous program and has a lot of tradition, I'm looking forward to him being a part of our program."
Snyder is the fifth recruit to announce his intentions to play basketball for the Royals next season. The other four are Nick Alfier, a 6-3 shooting guard from Allentown Central Catholic High School; Bill Burke, a 6-6 forward from Seton Catholic High School in Pittston, Pennsylvania; Thomas Gangemi, a 6-3 guard from Wissahickon High School (Pa.); and Michael Riccobono, a 5-9 point guard from Mendham High School in Mendham, New Jersey.
