MASEK, FUGOK TO JOIN ROYALS' WOMEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM

Joe Bochicchio, head women's soccer coach at The University of Scranton, has announced that Danielle Masek (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) and Kimberly Fugok (Broomall, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) will join the Royals' program for the upcoming 2002 seaseon.

Masek, a defender, was a four-year letter-winner for the Eagles of head coach Lisa Uhlan. She served as team captain this past year and was a second-team all-Southwest Conference selection. She also lettered in tennis three times and twice served as team captain.

Danielle is the daughter of Karen and Albert Masek of Oak Bluff Road in Milford.

Fugok, a defender and midfielder, was a three-time all-Main Line selection for the Bears of head coach Mike Zabel. She was a two-time all-Philadelphia Catholic League selection and earned her team's most valuable player (MVP) award twice. She also served as team captain the past two seasons. She was part of a Merion Mercy Academy program that averaged 11 wins a year, qualified for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) playoffs for the first-time in school history, in 2001, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament this past spring.

Kimberly is the daughter of Karen and George Fugok of Winding Way in Broomall.

The University of Scranton won the Freedom Conference title for the third straight year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III championships en route to a 17-4-1 overall record last year. The Royals will open the 2002 season on Friday and Saturday, August 30-31, by hosting Western Connecticut, Moravian and Eastern in the LPL Financial/Scranton Tournament.
