MAILE RESIGNS AS VOLLEYBALL COACH TO TAKE ASSOCIATE AD POSITION AT WELLESLEY COLLEGE

Kristin Maile, head women's volleyball coach at The University of Scranton, has resigned to become the associate director of athletics at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, effective immediately.

Her seven-year tenure as head coach of the Lady Royals' volleyball program has
produced an overall record of 166-112 (.597), including two Freedom Conference titles (1999, 2001), two Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament berths (1997, 2000) and two NCAA Division III championship appearances (1999, 2001). Maile, who has been named the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year twice (1999, 2001), led the Lady Royals to 20-or-more wins in each of her seven seasons.

"I'd liked to thank the University of Scranton for giving me a tremendous opportunity," says Maile. "It's been fun and I have nothing but fond memories. Even though I look forward to taking on new challenges at Wellesley, I will never forget what The University of Scranton did for me as both a student-athlete and as a coach."

A native of nearby Forest City, Pennsylvania, Maile holds a bachelor's and master's degrees from the University. She was a three-year letter-winner for the Lady Royals, earning all-Middle Atlantic Conference honors for her play at middle blocker during the 1991 season. In 1990, she was instrumental in leading Scranton to a then single-season record 29 wins and the championships of the MAC Northeast League.

"I'm very appreciative for her years of service to the volleyball program," says University of Scranton athletics director Toby Lovecchio. "She elevated the program, leading it to two conference titles and two NCAA tournament appearances. We will not only miss her as a coach, but also as a valued member of the athletics staff."

The University of Scranton will begin its search for a new volleyball coach immediately.
