GERKEN, LEVINE JOIN ROYALS COACHING STAFF
Toby Lovecchio, director of athletics at The University of Scranton, has announced the appointments of John Gerken as assistant men's soccer coach and Brad Levine as assistant women's soccer coach.
Gerken, who holds a C license from the United States Soccer Federation, comes to the University after serving as an assistant coach with the boys' varsity program at Miami Country Day School in Miami, Florida, since 1999. He also worked as an assistant with the girls' program at Miami Country Day for three seasons (1996-1998).
He was a four-year letterman as a goalie at Wofford College in Spartansburg, South Carolina, establishing the Terriers' single-season and career records for most saves. Upon graduation with a bachelor of arts degree in history, Gerken played two seasons with Suncoast Construction in the Florida Gold Coast League and for the past nine years with Coral Gables United F.C. in the South Florida Futbol League.
Levine, a native of Mahwah, New Jersey, is a 2002 graduate of Susquehanna University with a bachelor of arts degree in economics. A three-year letterman on the Crusaders men's soccer team and team captain the past two seasons, he was the recipient of the team's Rookie of the Year award in 1999 and earned second-team all-Commonwealth Conference honors this past fall. For the past five summers, Levine has worked as a personal trainer with the Tri-State Soccer School, working with youth soccer and Olympic Development Program players.
