LADY KARDS' SMITH TO PLAY SOCCER AT SCRANTON
Joe Bochicchio, head women's soccer coach at The University of Scranton, has announced that Jennifer Smith (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) will join the Royals for the upcoming 2002 season.
Smith, a midfielder, was a four-year letter-winner for the Lady Kardinals of head coach Tom Burns. She scored 42 goals and assisted on 38 others as Kearny High School posted a four-year overall record of 69-14-2 that included four conference titles and four Hudson County Tournament championships. The Lady Kardinals also won a sectional championship during the 2000 season. She was a three-time all-county selection, including first-team honors twice (2000, 2001), and earned the most valuable player (MVP) award of the county tournament in 2000. She also earned four letters in softball and one in basketball.
Jennifer is the daughter of William and Anne Smith of Stewart Ave. in Kearny.
The University of Scranton won the Freedom Conference title for the third straight year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III championships en route to a 17-4-1 overall record last year. The Royals will open the 2002 season on Friday and Saturday, August 30-31, by hosting Western Connecticut, Moravian and Eastern in the LPL Financial/Scranton Tournament.
