RHODES EARNS SECOND-TEAM ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE HONORS
Sarah Rhodes (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn), a sophomore pitcher on The University of Scranton softball team, has been named second-team all-Freedom Conference.
Rhodes led the Royals in the following statistical categories this year as Scranton qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs for the second straight year: wins (10), shutouts (5), earned run average (1.73), games started (19), innings pitched (142.0) and strikeouts (95).
In addition, she broke her own single-season record for strikeouts, eclipsing her previous mark of 73, and her 142 innings of work shattered Alyce Ruane's previous Scranton single-season record of 118. Her five shutouts is the second-best single-season total in Royals history and her 125 hits allowed in 142 innings of work is the fifth fewest allowed in Scranton history.
For her career, Rhodes is now 20-18 (.526), with 168 strikeouts and an earned run average of 2.229.
Sarah, who is also a member of The University of Scranton field hockey team, is the daughter of Michael and Francine Rhodes of Elmwood Place in Short Hills.
