12/22 - Women's Basketball: Pierangeli Named Freedom Conference Player of the Week

PIERANGELI NAMED FREEDOM CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kate Pierangeli (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), a senior guard on The University of Scranton women’s basketball team, has been named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 21.

Pierangeli averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.0 steals in leading the 5th-ranked Lady Royals to a pair of wins at the Cruzin Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida, on December 17-18.

In a 73-51 victory over Colby College, Pierangeli scored a game-high 21 points, including the 1000th of her career, handed out six assists and made four steals. She came back the next day to score eight points, hand out a career-high 10 assists and made two steals in an 85-53 win over Randolph-Macon College.

In this week’s Freedom Conference statistics, Pierangeli is 2nd in the league in assists (5.5), 3rd in scoring (15.5), fourth in steals (2.5), 5th in 3-point field goal percentage (.400) and 8th in field goal percentage (.400).

Pierangeli, who became the 20th player in Lady Royals’ history to score 1000 career points, is the 18th all-time leading scorer in Scranton history with 1,023 total points. She is also 2nd in 3-point field goals (144), 5th in steals (212) and free throw percentage (.729), and 8th in assists (334) and 3-point field goal percentage (.330).
