Meal Plans

The Meal Plans are designed to offer convenience, flexibility, and value. A Meal Plan guarantees weekly meals needed for a busy schedule. We offer 26 meal periods each week, four meals per day Monday through Friday. Meal Plans can be used in the Gunster Student Center at either the Pocono Northeast Room or the Commonwealth Room. The University offers a choice of three cost-effective meal plans providing 19, 14 or 10 meals per week:

The 19-meal plan provides you with:

  • Any 19 meals per week
  • Three meals per day
  • $50 in Flex dollars per semester that may be used at any Dining Services locations
  • 2 guest meals per semester

The 14-meal plan provides you with:

  • Any 14 meals per week
  • Three meals per day
  • $100 in Flex dollars per semester that may be used at any Dining Services locations
  • 2 guest meals per semester

The 10-meal plan offers you with:

  • Any combination of 10 meals per week
  • Three meals per day
  • $200 in Flex dollars per semester that may be used at any Dining Services locations
  • 15 guest meals per semester

"Super Flex" Meal Account – formerly the Commuter Meal Plan

Commuter students, living with their parents or guardians in the local Scranton area, are encouraged to join and participate in Dining Services’ "Super Flex" Meal Account. The Super Flex Plan, designed specifically for commuters, is a non-traditional plan that works just like a debit card and:

  • Can be opened with $100
  • Allows deposits at any time in $25 increments
  • Offers a 20% bonus on deposits of $100!
  • May be used at all Dining Services locations

Meal Plan Requirements

Freshman students living on campus must participate in the 19 Meal Plan for the entire academic year. Students living in the following Residence Halls MUST participate in one of the three offered Meal Plans.

Gavigan, Driscoll, Leahy, Nevils, Redington

All Freshman residents and other residents living in the above listed halls must participate in the respective meal plan for the entire academic year, including intersession (regardless of the reason for living in the residence halls).

Meal Plan participation is voluntary for commuters, off-campus students living in private housing and resident students living in university housing not mandated for a meal plan. (See above mandated housing)

These voluntary meal plan students may: 1) Enroll in a meal plan through the UIS system. 2) May switch to another meal plan at any time. 3) May drop their meal plan only during the initial drop/add period as determined by the Registrar.

Special Dietary Needs/Sick Trays

A student whose religion or health or dietary needs make special food preparation or diets necessary should discuss this need with the Director of Dining Services. For students unable to visit the dining hall due to illness, sick trays may be requested by contacting the Director of Dining Services at 941-7456.

Dining Committee

The Dining Committee consists of a representative group of students who meet periodically with the Director of Dining Services and the Assistant Dean and Director of Residence Life (or designee) in order to monitor the quality of the dining-service operation. Students are encouraged to direct suggestions regarding the food service to the attention of Committee representatives, the Director of Dining Services, the Vice President for Student Affairs, or the Assistant Dean and Director of Residence Life.

Display of Royal Card

A student's photo identification card is to be carried at all times. The Royal Card may be used by any student to purchase meals in the dining facilities of the Gunster Student Center or other Dining Services locations. It must be displayed to the cashier at each meal and presented to University officials upon request. The cards are not transferable for use by others; such use is considered fraudulent and will subject the cardholder(s) to disciplinary action. Students may have their cards replaced by contacting the Royal Card Office.

Hours of operation can be found on our website.
