Panel Discussion - Sustainability on Campus
Learn more about The University of Scranton’s sustainability initiatives and why such programs are important.

Panelists:

Richard Larsen, associate professor of English and the director of the University’s theater program, will discuss the University Players’ innovate initiative to incorporate recycled and discarded material into set designs.

Cynthia Cann, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing, will discuss the sustainability components incorporated into the university’s MBA program, including the cornerstone course Responsibility, Sustainability and Justice.

Michael Cann, Ph.D., professor of chemistry and co-facilitator for the University’s sustainability seminar series for faculty members, will discuss the progress made by the University in integrating sustainability themes into the courses across its curriculum.

Mark Murphy, assistant director of utilities, will discuss the numerous green construction components and features of the DeNaples Center, as well as other sustainability initiates on campus.

Becky Prial, a senior from Warrick, N.Y. who is a member of the University’s Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Program, will discuss the importance of supporting local food producers and the larger sustainability issues facing food production in the United States.

The panel discussion was organized by the University’s Sustainability Task Force. As part of the University’s ongoing emphasis on Education for Justice, the Sustainability Task Force was created to develop a comprehensive strategy for The University of Scranton. E Springs Steele, Ph.D., associate provost, serves as chair.

April 29 - City of Scranton’s Earth Day Fair
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Center Street (behind Molly Brannigan’s on Lackawanna Avenue in downtown Scranton)
The fair will include food, games, information booths and music by Cabinet and Charles Havira. Mr. Murphy, Professor Larsen and Scranton students will participate. For additional information call 348-4227.
