Council of Alumni Lawyers

Mission Statement

The Council of Alumni Lawyers (CAL) seeks to advance the mission and reputation of The University of Scranton by providing the University and its students with an accessible and engaged network of alumni lawyers. Members of the Council utilize their experience and education, and leverage their professional networks, to actively support faculty, staff and administrators in leading the educational and professional development of Scranton students who plan to enter the field of law. The Council also serves as an example to the broader alumni community, encouraging greater involvement and investment in the University’s strategic priorities and student success.

    On October 18, six University of Scranton alumni lawyers came together on campus with faculty and staff to formally re-establish the Council of Alumni Lawyers.     Nominated by fellow executive committee members, Mara Smith, Esq. '13 will serve as Chair of the Council of Alumni Lawyers. Mara is currently the Associate General Counsel for Brighton Health Plan Solutions, LLC in New Jersey where she advises her client on a variety of issues including contracts, compliance, and employment issues. While at Scranton, Mara was an International Business major and was heavily involved in SJLA and the International Service Program. Following graduation, she completed a year of Jesuit Volunteer Corps in San Francisco, CA and then attended law school at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University, where she completed a Health Law concentration. She is currently enrolled in The University of Scranton's online dual-degree MBA/MHA program and sits on The University of Scranton Alumni Society Advisory Board.

Members utilize their experience and education to actively support faculty, staff and administrators in leading the educational and professional development of Scranton students who plan to enter the field of law.
